Hello, my name is Larissa Hul-Galasek, LMFT 126063 (she/her pronouns). I am a licensed therapist who utilizes expressive arts therapy, mindfulness, somatic and trauma informed, social justice oriented and nature-based approaches in Arcata, Eureka and CA residents through online therapy. I know the search for that right therapist can be challenging, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if you'd like to see if we would be a good fit to support you on your wellness journey.
Expressive Arts Therapy is the integration of art, creative creation, music, drama, poetry, dance and movement. In sessions, we tend to flow from one to the other and back again. You do not have to be "good". I wasn't. But I am still amazed by the meaning, feelings, thoughts and experiences that arise through expressive arts therapy. We tend to be out of practice with these forms of expression and healing, I'm here to guide you. In therapy sessions, this might look like drawing with both hands, writing about the experience, moving aspects of your drawing, giving sound to your art work or listening to a meaningful song and expanding on the lyrics or rhythms.
Mindfulness is an important skill of learning to recognize where we are at both in mind and body throughout various moments and experiences. Mindfulness is rooted in Buddhism and I learned practices from Buddhist teachers for more than a decade. I do think it is important to not disconnect mindfulness from its cultural origins and it is important to note that I am not a Buddhist teacher. In therapy sessions, my mindfulness-based approach might look like taking five to ten minutes to pause to check in with your internal rhythms or I might encourage awareness while engaged in creative creation.
Somatic and Trauma Informed//Social Justice Oriented
Soma means the body. The body is impacted by, holds and responds to stress and trauma. That trauma and stress we've experienced in our lives, or witnessed others experience or what our ancestors experienced. We carry more than we might be aware. Systems impact us, racism, sexism, heterosexism, ableism, poverty. In therapy sessions, my somatic, trauma and systems informed approach might look like slowing down to bring awareness to your body's reactions or your movements, exploring how trauma and systems impact your relationships, feelings, thoughts and experiences.
Nature based or Ecotherapy
We are nature. We may have lost touch with that sense of belonging and our part in the balance of the planet. This is especially true for our societies amidst the climate catastrophe and the impact that has physically, mentally and spiritually. There are ways to help us heal, reconnect and take meaningful action to support us. In sessions, this might look like integrating the weather or nature surrounding us into our conversation, guided visualizations or incorporating nature into expressive arts explorations.
I also offer gender affirming surgery letter writing sessions for medical care
free of charge to decrease barriers to this life saving treatment.
I identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Telehealth may be an ideal option especially on hard days. I offer options for support for family/caregivers as well.

The state of the world may leave us in dismay and we might have difficulty moving forward towards hope. As a member of the North American Climate Aware Psychotherapy Association, I offer informed mental health support for those who are struggling.
Creativity has a sense of aliveness and fulfillment, our sessions support your cultivation of this energy for yourself.
I integrate expressive arts therapy into telehealth sessions on an individualized and customized basis.
I offer telehealth using HIPAA compliant web-based platforms, your privacy is important to me. You will need internet connection, a smartphone or computer with camera and microphone, and a place that feels private and safe where you can be comfortable being in therapy. I recognize that you may like to engage in counseling as a tool for your wellness routine or when experiencing stress, conflict or feeling stuck without meeting criteria for a mental health diagnosis. I offer this as a possibility.
Once we have agreed that LHG Counseling is a good fit for you, you will receive an email invitation from Sessions Health which includes consent for treatment, description of service agreements, insurance form, telehealth consent and emergency contact form.
